China builds Little India to up outsourcing

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Wuxi, a traditionally manufacturing city that lies along Taihu Lake resort of the Jiangsu province in China, has decided to replace manufacturing with the service outsourcing industry in its attempt build what is called as a 'Little India'.

The local government in Wuxi has partnered with India's National Institute of Information Technologies (NIIT) to establish the NIIT (China) Outsourcing College in Wuxi as a training base for the city's outsourcing businesses, reported China Daily.

With an expectations to attract 30 to 40 billion dollars in service outsourcing business and help create jobs for one million people by 2020, equivalent to that of India as a whole in 2007, Wuxi established a goal to build a total area of six million sq m for software service outsourcing within three years, the report said.

Wuxi three years ago learned that fewer than 2,000 students in the city were studying software and information technology fields, which will help in getting talent, though, to a limited extent, as of now. The city also encouraged enterprises to cultivate and import skilled workers.

In recent times the ties between India and China in the IT sector has grown strong. Recently, a business delegation from China's Sichuan province's capital city Chengdu had visited India in an effort to woo Indian IT firms to set up bases there.

Also a delegation from Kerala had visited China, to strengthen the ties.

The 7-member delegation led by Ajay Kumar, Kerala's IT Secretary, visited the country on the formal invitation by the Shenyang Municipal People's Government, said an IT department official.
