Data integration platform must for enterprises

MUMBAI, INDIA: In today's computer age, all businesses, irrespective of size or shape, have been using various applications and IT systems within their organization and offices to a great extent. This has led to a massive surge in volumes of data generated across departments within the organizations.

And in the globalization era, most enterprises operates across geographies with multiple offices and divisions. In such situation, for any CIO, the challenge of running the organization by providing updated information aligning with technology needs for decision making becomes even more hard and complex.

“For any organization not having a data integration platform hampers its business and progress greatly. The company's projects can get delayed, its estimations can get wrong, compliance and various issues can come up, which can have business impact as well as monetary loss,” says Sid Lasley, Informatica's director – Alliances Asia Pacific.

“Importantly, in any organization the data needs to have a specific standard, which allows maintenance, streamline and timeliness of information or data,” adds Lasely.

While the data integration remains top priority for the CIO, in a typical organization, generally, the divisional or departmental heads are not keen in sharing data or information. “Integration or collaboration of data within the departments or sections in any organization is necessary. However, departmental heads are hesitant to do so, although the data is being shared within the organization,” comments Lasely.

He views, such possessiveness shown by departments or its heads is part of human nature but for overall progress and interest of enterprise or organization, data integration across all levels is must.

“For the CIO, this situation adds a new task of convincing the departmental heads and making them understand the need of sharing information,” observes Lasely.

Apart from organizational departments, most enterprises are accessing various web-based business applications using models such as Cloud/On-demand or SaaS. On technical grounds, here the enterprises are sharing data while accessing various businesses application on those models. Henceforth, the data integration platform needs to support this situation also.

According to Lasely, today across enterprises there's explosion of data and is growing exponentially. In terms of the issues pertaining to data, he points out, “Enterprises struggle to timeline organizational data, business IT collaboration needs to be addressed along with maintaining data quality that helps to make business efficient.”

On Indian enterprises, Lasely shares that here the large enterprises are open to data integration, however the medium and small organizations need to understand the value of data, its role in business and overall enhancing the business efficiency using data integration platforms.
