BANGALORE, INDIA: Google these days is in news for coming up with fresh additions to its kitty. The latest addition comes with the launch of a community service search engine, All for Good.
This new service runs inline with President Barack Obama's community service campaign. A blog in Google's official website said, “when we learned that President Obama and the First Lady were making community service a top priority even before taking office, we thought we could help make a difference.”
This new interface would enable simple search on relevant information about various community service programs and events.
All for Good provides a single search interface for volunteer activities across many major volunteering sites and organizations like United Way, VolunteerMatch, HandsOn Network and Reach Out and Read, said the blog.
Google has also launched a data API to allow software developers build their own application. “We've built All for Good as a platform to encourage innovation in volunteerism, as much as an end product in itself. We hope software developers will use the API or code to build their own volunteering applications, some even better than the All for Good site!,” said the blog.
