MUMBAI, INDIA: While for the last two days, a lot has been said and discussed on the global recession, its impact on IT industry and other sectors, the third day at NASSCOM India Leadership Forum 2009 here brought in fresh thoughts and innovative ideas with better solutions to meet the crisis. While addressing the gathering at the NILF, Jim Champy, Perot Systems' chairman and also a renowned author, today advised the IT community about their approach towards competing the recessionary challenges. "I am optimistic even in such times, and see lots of opportunities. In such times, the IT industry and the business models needs to be changed. Those companies that are able to change their business models will survive the tough times and have bright future ahead," Champy said. "During the slowdown, the changes in business models will help to restructure and consolidate the business for the next three to four years. After that period, there will be more jobs in the market and companies can expand to new markets and geographies,” he added.
“It's a period of long term restructuring and for the IT industry it is a big opportunity to use technology and innovations," according to Champy. Discussing on the lower pricing and service quality, Champy observed that every client or customer is demanding good services at lower prices and if it continues, most businesses in longer term will get extinct. He also said that it such times the rules of industry needs to be changed as per our clients or customers.
"This can be done by building and protecting brand on premise of operational excellence, changing the frame of reference that adds value to services and deliveries," Champy pointed. Further, he stressed on technology and said, "IT industry needs to neutralize the complexity of technology for customers' benefits and understanding. Companies needs to be authentic in what they say to customers as today every piece of information is available on the Internet that can be checked and those company claims can be tested." Moving from business authenticity, he asked the IT community to look at the channel partnership in the business, where benefits of business are shared among all players and not restricted to a few. Overall, Champy was successful in putting across his message of changing business models and overcoming the tough times and shared names of companies such as Puma, Partsearch.com, Zipcar.com, Memberhealth and a few others that had followed the same path to success.
