NetApp VMware and Cisco join hands

NEW DELHI, INDIA: NetApp, VMware and Cisco today jointly announced a new design architecture for data centers in the name of multi-tenancy design architecture.

“We have been getting queries from customers for shared but secure servers. Through this new design, we have made an attempt to give reliable security to their data while the same server is being used by other businesses or departments,” said Ganesan Arumugam, director-partner, VMware.

“This kind of technology was available but was being offered by different technology vendors. NetApp, Cisco and VMware have joined to offer new dynamic data centre,” he added.

Using multi-tenancy design architecture, an enterprise will be able to use multiple applications on the same server. Companies promise that when a server will be shared with other applications, there will be no negative effect on the performance of application that was previously running on the same server.

“Suppose an enterprise is running an application which is using only 20 per cent of the server's capacity. Using multi-tenancy, we can run other application on the same server without impacting the performance of the previous application. We are saving opex and capex cost of enterprise by virtualizing servers in secured manner,” said Surajit Sen, director channels, marketing and alliances, NetApp.

When this technology was compared with cloud computing services being offered at present, Sen mentioned that the technology of cloud services can be an outcome of this architecture and the alliance is even looking at cloud computing vendors to adapt this architecture.

This alliance will jointly market and provide support service for the product.

“Customer will get the service by calling from a common support team. At present we have 10 common trade partners globally to sell this product. Cognizant is one common partner that is working with us on global scale and also has its presence in India. We are looking for nine others,” said Sen.

The three companies jointly have 200 clients in common. The alliance is optimistic that these common clients and many other mainly is BFSI and telecom will soon embrace the technology.
