MUMBAI, INDIA: The Reliance Communications Ltd, owned by Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, today launched its nationwide GSM mobile telephone services in India, spread over 11,000 towns and 340,000 villages. With a capital infusion of Rs 10,000 crore, the project has been completed six months ahead of the schedule, said chairman Anil Ambani, while launching the services from the Reliance Centre in Mumbai. "What has taken other companies 15 years to achieve, we have completed in less than 15 months," he added. A major CDMA player in the country, Reliance Communications is spread over 20,000 towns and 450,000 villages and has a subscriber base of around 60 million. Reliance said in a few days it will launch a nationwide enhanced GSM service covering over one billion people. Compared to aging mobile networks prevalent today, Reliance's new 21st century network brings a number of innovations, said a press release. It is using next-gen electronics for super digital voice clarity and will offer seamless coverage on major railway routes, national and state highways, through dedicated towers, the release added. "In 2003 Reliance changed the face of telecom sector in India," said Anil Ambani.
"Through our nationwide GSM launch coupled with Reliance's continued focus on our number one CDMA network, we will once again endeavor to rewrite the rules of the industry by offering our customers an unbeatable proposition across coverage, quality, service breadth, handset range, and above all, value."
