Says it will start test signals of the IPTV channel within a week

KOLKATA, INDIA: Sahaj, a subsidiary of SREI infrastructure, will start test signals of Sahaj TV – an IPTV channel within next seven days. It will initially be webcast within closed users group at common service centres (CSC) being run by Sahaj.

"IPTV is cost-effective way to start a channel and better than traditional analog and digital transmission in many ways. It is also an opportunity for us to maximize our existing infrastructure," said Dr. Sabahat Azim, chief executive, Sahaj e-Village.

Sahaj has got contract to roll out common service centres in Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and east of Uttar Pradesh. This IPTV channel from Sahaj will cater mostly to rural parts of the country.

"Most of the media groups focuses on urban parts of the country. We want to support voice of the rural population, their development and dignity. Our initial target audience are people working and visiting CSCs across states," said Azim, chief executive, Sahaj e-Village.

The test signal of the channel will be run in 25 CSCs across Kalahandi and Azim ensures that this can be accessed even at an Internet speed of 200 kbps.

Around 75 per cent content of channel will comprise news, report on health card, education, road and other important issues that affect the life of rural people. Remaining 25 per cent will be entertainment-based programs.

Sahaj has plans to officially launch this channel across all CSCs being run by it on this August 15, and has plans to go to for national-level webcasting by the end of this year.

Sahaj TV is looking for tie-ups with IPTV providers and in places where there are no IPTV providers it will go for tie-up with cable operators.
