BANGALORE, INDIA: “Security concerns can become threat to the Indian IT and BPO industry”, said Jerry Rao, member of the Board, Data Security Council of India(DSCI).

He further added that security could become a bad mark for the country.

Data Security Council of India (DSCI), today organized an seminar on 'Data Protection Imperatives in a Global Delivery Model', where it kicked off the first chapter in Bangalore.

While giving the inaugural address at the event, Harsh Manglik, chairman and geography managing director, Accenture India and vice chairman of the Executive Council for NASSCOM said, “The threat is for personal as well as national security and is serious and major for all parts of eco-system.”

He added that in present situations are coming from malign intent and have moved into criminal activity for causing disruptions, steal, and creating economic havoc.

He further said that there cannot be a single bullet solution. There has to be a system to address them.

Majority of the security concerns come from the social networking sites, false domains and not properly configured websites and individual actions such as giving away personal passwords and pin numbers to friends etc.

“There are several myths about security, Small and Medium businesses think that there is no major requirement of security for them. Some feel there is no return on investment,” said Shyamal Ghosh, chairman, DSCI.

He added that a single small lapse in security can lead to bad name for the country, and that why we need to create awareness. DSCI is working closely with the government, police, corporates to educate, enforce regulations and best practices.

The objective of this event was to create trustworthiness of Indian companies as global sourcing service providers, and to send out a message to clients worldwide that India is a secure destination for outsourcing where privacy and protection of customer data are enshrined in the global best practices followed by the industry.

With that the organization wants aims at creating awareness as well enforce regulation not only for the industry but also for nation overall.

“ DSCI would help in shaping and evolving of best standard and practices in the country,” said Rao.

He further added that instead of being a threat we could become a competitive edge, take this as an advantage and create leading edge best practices and be a favored destination for outsourcing.

DSCI is a non profit organization promoted by the IT regulatory body NASSCOM.

It currently has over 75 members representing over forty organizations including Infosys, HP, Wipro, Cisco, Accenture etc.
