Persistent launches accelerator for Skype

BANGALORE, INDIA: Outsourced software product development services provider Persistent Systems announced today a solution accelerator for rapid integration of Skype video calling on embedded devices, such as TVs, IP set-top boxes, mobile Internet devices and media phones.

The accelerator developed by Persistent's Multimedia Technology Group is based on Skypekit SDK and would address complex challenges of enabling video calling on a wide range of embedded devices with diverse use cases, said a press release.

"Skype has revolutionized the audio/video communication experience over the Internet," said Sachin Kurlekar, head of Persistent's Multimedia Group.

"With the proliferation of 3G/4G networks and broadband internet, it is estimated that the VoIP user base would exceed 100 million by 2012. With our solution accelerator, OEMs can now rapidly integrate Skype into their solution."

The release added that processor companies, camera partners and customers had carried out closed room demonstrations of the accelerator at leading technology events.
