Asyst sale on company fades off

CALIFORNIA, USA: Three companies have been chosen by Asyst Technologies for the sale of its entire assets. The event has in the meantime proven successful enough to wipe off its troubled times once and for all. The three companies are: Crossing Automation Inc, Murata Machinery Ltd and the Peer Group.

In its deal with Murata, the company's Japanese rival, Asyst sold its automated material handling systems (AMHS) range for an amount to the tune of $110 million.

Fabtech news added that Asyst then picked Crossing Automation for a deal which amounted to a definitive agreement that would help sale of Asyst's atmospheric technologies assets. The report added that the sale includes Asyst's sorter lines, Equipment Front-end Module and RFID products. In the third deal, Asyst has sold its connectivity software to the Peer Group.

The three deals, pending final approval, would mean that Asyst, the company that had been long seen as a fab-automation pioneer, will cease to exist. This, in fact, brings to end a journey that began way back in 1984. Asyst has been in the scene with products that were seen as the de-facto standard in wafer handling in IC manufacturing, and had boasted of customers such as Intel, Toshiba, and TSMC.

The assets sale, however, had to be thought of following the company's fall into troubled times following mismanagement, poor execution, losses and the recent IC downturn.
